چکیده

Conceptual neighborhood graphs capture the similarity among qualitative relations. This paper derives the graphs for the thirty-three topological relations between two crisp, undirected lines and for the seventy-seven topological relations between two lines with uncertain boundaries. The analysis of the graphs shows that the normalized node degrees increases, from the crisp to the broad-boundary lines, roughly at the same degree as it increases for crisp lines that are transformed from R into R.

Modelling Conceptual Neighbourhoods of Toplogical Line-Region Relations

Based on the 9-intersection for binary topological relations, two models of conceptual neighborhoods among topological relations between a line and a region are developed. The snapshot model derives the neighborhoods by comparing pairs of topological relations and selects neighbors based on least noticeable differences, whereas the smooth-transition model develops neighborhoods based on the kno...

Topological Relationships between a Circular Spatially Extended Point and a Line: Spatial Relations and their Conceptual Neighborhoods

This paper presents the topological spatial relations that can exist in the geographical space between a Circular Spatially Extended Point and a Line and describes the use of those spatial relations in the identification of the conceptual neighbourhood graphs that state the transitions occurring among relations. The conceptual neighbourhood graphs were identified using the snapshot model and th...

Identifying factors of geographic event conceptualisation

This paper examines whether the formal topological characterization of spatial relations between moving geographic regions provides an adequate basis for the human conceptualization of motion events for those regions. The paper focuses on gradual changes in topological relationships caused by continuous transformations of the regions (specifically, translations). Using a series of experiments, ...

The Head-Body-Tail Intersection for Spatial Relations Between Directed Line Segments

Directed line segments are fundamental geometric elements used to model through their spatial relations such concepts as divergence, confluence, and interference. A new model is developed that captures spatial relations between pairs of directed line segments through the intersections of the segments’ heads, bodies, and tails. This head-body-tail intersection identifies 68 classes of topologica...
